Historic Yachting Town
As the oldest English town on Martha's Vineyard, Edgartown is noted for picturesque harbors and being perhaps the most elegant town on-island. Walk North Water Street to see the rows of stately captain's houses, or take a trip to The Vincent House, the island's oldest known home-turned-museum, and tour inside.
Visit the harbor, dotted with impressive yachts, or the Edgartown lighthouse for breathtaking water views. Or simply wander Main Street and pass by the grand Old Whaling Church, now a performing arts center, and Dr. Daniel Fisher House, both historic landmarks. No matter where you go in Edgartown, you'll be immersed in the picture book perfection of this old whaling town.
Fine Dining and First Class Shopping
Edgartown, as the landing spot for many high-end yachts, is filled with upscale restaurants that cater to a more “coat and tie” crowd. Dine al fresco on the porch at Alchemy or overlooking the water at the Atlantic. And if you're in the market for more casual dining there are plenty of options like The Newes from America Pub or Behind the Bookstore Café. Whether it's at a diner or a classy waterfront dinner, good food and good times are easy to find in Edgartown.
The town is also filled with premier shopping, with big names like Lilly Pulitzer and Jack Wills setting up shop on Main Street. Head down to the original Vineyard Vines store to see where the preppy moguls got their start and take a picture with the cut out of famous pink whale!
Entertainment for All Hours
An abundance of public beaches in the Edgartown area provide plenty of spots to have a fun-filled day in the sun. Right in town, Lighthouse Beach and Bend-in-the-Road beach are relaxing spots, or take a short trip to the surf and dunes at Katama beach.
Hop on the five-minute ferry ride across to Chappaquiddick and marvel at the pristine Wasque and Cape Poge beaches, both great spots for fishing. Also on Chappaquiddick is the beautiful Mytoi Japanese garden and opportunities to tour the amazing natural environment and historic lighthouse.
Once the sun has set, the fun doesn't stop. Catch a movie at the Edgartown Cinema or partake in the nightlife scene, as the town is home to many pubs and bars where you can enjoy music, good food and drinks.
